About XionLab

Industrial strength. Safer for you and safer for the environment.

Our mission is to bring the strength and effectiveness of industrial chemicals to the retail and commercial market, with the safety of the consumer and the environment in mind. Our family has over 40 years of experience in the industrial chemicals, janitorial and sanitation products industry. In the past we only did wholesale distribution, supplying schools, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, restaurants, institutional buildings and manufacturing plants.

Our goal with XionLab is to give the retail consumer the same innovative, quality products that were only available to institutions in the past. Bottom line, we develop safe products that work. Everything is proudly made in the USA and manufactured to meet Terra Care Safer for Environment Products Standards. A percentage of our sales is donated to a nonprofit that helps prevent and treat drug and alcohol addiction.

Step 1 of 5

What metal is it?

This one matters. The formula is acidic, so it eats soft metals.

A gallon covers about 1,000 sq ft brushed on smooth steel, and about 530 sprayed on heavy scale. The questions above pick the right number for your job.

Why it works

Less paint. One coat. Done in two days.

4X

Coverage per gallon

530 to 1,000 sq ft* from one gallon. About four times what the other converters on the shelf give you.

1

Coat converts and primes

Rust becomes black iron phosphate and the metal is primed in that same pass. No primer to buy or wait on.

48HRS

Then topcoat, or leave it

Give it 48 hours. After that it takes any paint you own, or you can stop right there.

People who used it

It works wonders, just as promised. I applied it to an exhaust manifold and it converted rust plus it won't peel off. I then applied it to the chassis and painted it. No other product has done that.

Questions we get

Anything else, write to [email protected]. A person answers.

Do I need a separate primer?

No. One coat converts the rust and primes the metal. A topcoat is optional. If you add one, wait 48 hours first.

How much do I need?

A pint covers about 125 sq ft. A gallon covers 530 to 1,000 sq ft* depending on how rough the surface is. Measure the job and run it through the rust calculator.

What metal does it work on?

Iron, steel and stainless steel. Truck frames, trailers, exhaust manifolds, fences, railings, gates, grills, equipment, barns, structural steel and marine work.

How do I prep the surface?

Wire brush the loose flakes and leave the firm rust. Remove grease and oil. Do not grind to bare metal. Damp metal is fine. Apply with a brush, roller or sprayer, thinned with no more than 15 percent water. Do not apply below 50F.

What is a rust converter?

A rust converter is a coating that reacts with rust and changes it into a stable compound. Ours turns iron oxide into black iron phosphate. Instead of stripping rust off, you turn the rust itself into a hard layer you can paint.

Can I paint over it?

Yes, after 48 hours of cure time you can apply urethanes, epoxies, enamels in oil or water base, alkyd, bitumen, or chlorinated rubber. Most competing products only accept oil based paint.

Will it work on a damp surface?

Yes. It is water based, it will not trap moisture, and it is the only rust converter for metal that applies to damp surfaces.

How hot can it get?

In lab tests the cured coating held up to 300F, and it expands and contracts with the metal down to 30F.
